Never heard of mad honey before? You may very well know this special honey, but under one of its other names, such as Deli bal or Miel Fou. Mad honey is a 100% natural honey that can only be extracted in two places in the world. The bee that gathers this honey is larger and more aggressive than average honey bees and is only found in the Black Sea region of Turkey and the Himalayas in Nepal. These Deli Bal bees get the nectar from the rhododendron flowers, which naturally contain the substance grayanotoxin. This grayanotoxin ends up in the honey and causes the fuzzy effect.
The 2016 VICE documentary made mad honey better known, but people in Turkey and Nepal have been using this unique honey for thousands of years. They strongly believe in the medicinal effect of mad honey and therefore use it for its healing powers for a variety of complaints. In addition, mad honey is very suitable for recreational use in small quantities.
